As managing partner of Herr Capital Management, Terry provides dependable options and guidance in the implementation of financial and investment plans. He helps clients define and prioritize what is most important to them in order to collaboratively nurture their financial and personal goals so that they can live a life of prosperity. Terry feels that trust is key in a client relationship, but when he truly gets to know those he’s working with, he is better at his job of advising them.
Terry enjoys educating people, sharing his knowledge and learning from theirs in turn. His father and grandfather both knew the importance of financial literacy and taught him the practical components of money management. Today, he is eager to share what they bestowed upon him, as he continues learning throughout the education process.
Terry is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) and has spent the last 21 years helping clients protect, preserve and grow their wealth. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Chicago, obtained the Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®) designation and has served as an adjunct faculty member at both Depaul and Northwestern University. With an established local and national media presence, Terry has been seen on: NBC, FOX, CBS, WGN, Crain’s Chicago Business, Chicago Tribune, Journal of Financial Planning, The Los Angeles Times, Boomer Market Advisor and The National Underwriter. He has also presented at several industry conferences, received a recognition award from Loyola University for his volunteer efforts and recently received the Distinguished Alumni Award from his high school in 2018.
Passionate about helping others, Terry has spent his time volunteering since he was young. In college, he utilized his breaks to travel to Appalachia, SW United States and Guatemala to help those less fortunate and during his senior year, he was the co-chair for Hunger Week, raising over $50,000 for global hunger and homelessness. To this day, Terry and his wife dedicate their time to a number of local organizations, including Illinois Foster Children and the Children’s Home and Aid Society of Illinois.
Being a self-employed business owner allows Terry the freedom and flexibility to spend time with his family and pursue his passions. He is incredibly family-centric and also greatly enjoys cooking and traveling. Having traveled to 15 countries, Terry is an avid backpacker, mountain climber and outdoor adventure seeker. He has hiked over 350 miles below the rim of the Grand Canyon and has successfully summited 7% of Colorado’s 14,000-foot peaks, including a solo ascent of the tallest peak in the Rocky Mountain range. He has also hiked parts of the Appalachian Trail, Anza-Borrego Desert, Death Valley as well as various areas of California, Colorado, Arizona and Nevada. One of his most proud moments, though, is of summiting Kala Patthar, an 18,519 ft. mountain peak in the shadow Everest, raising over $15,000 for Illinois Foster Children. There’s no doubt that Terry is always up for the adventures life presents.
