As managing partner of Herr Capital Management, Terry provides dependable options and guidance in the implementation of financial and investment plans. He helps clients define and prioritize what is most important to them in order to collaboratively nurture their financial and personal goals so that they can live a life of prosperity. Terry feels that trust is key in a client relationship, but when he truly gets to know those he’s working with, he is better at his job of advising them.
Terry enjoys educating people, sharing his knowledge and learning from theirs in turn. His father and grandfather both knew the importance of financial literacy and taught him the practical components of money management. Today, he is eager to share what they bestowed upon him, as he continues learning throughout the education process.
Terry is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) and has spent the last 29+ years helping clients protect, preserve and grow their wealth. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Chicago and has served as an adjunct faculty member at both DePaul and Northwestern University. With an established local and national media presence, Terry has been seen on: NBC, FOX, CBS, WGN, Crain’s Chicago Business, Chicago Tribune, Journal of Financial Planning, The Los Angeles Times, Boomer Market Advisor and The National Underwriter. He has also presented at several industry conferences, received a recognition award from Loyola University for his volunteer efforts and recently received the Distinguished Alumni Award from his high school in 2018.
Passionate about helping others, Terry has spent his time volunteering since he was young. In college, he utilized his breaks to travel to Appalachia, SW United States and Guatemala to help those less fortunate and during his senior year, he was the co-chair for Hunger Week, raising over $50,000 for global hunger and homelessness. To this day, Terry and his wife dedicate their time to a number of local organizations, including Illinois foster children having raised over $25,000 in donations for the Children’s Home and Aid Society of Illinois.
Being a self-employed business owner allows Terry the freedom and flexibility to spend time with his family and pursue his passions. He is incredibly family-centric and also greatly enjoys cooking and traveling. Having traveled to 17 countries, Terry is an avid backpacker, mountain climber and outdoor adventure seeker. He has hiked over 500 miles below the rim of the Grand Canyon and has successfully summited 7% of Colorado’s 14,000-foot peaks, including a solo ascent of the tallest peak in the Rocky Mountain range. He has also hiked parts of the Appalachian Trail, Anza-Borrego Desert, Death Valley as well as various areas of California, Colorado, Arizona and Nevada. One of his most proud moments is of reaching the summit of Kala Patthar, an 18,519 ft. mountain peak in the shadow Mount Everest. Terry carried a banner signed by many of the foster children who benefited from from the$15,000 raised by the climbing project. There’s no doubt that Terry is always up for the adventures life presents.
Melissa joined Herr Capital Management in 2017 with over 18 years of experience in the financial planning industry. As such, she has a distinct skill set and passion for helping engage clients in a life of prosperity. A true advocate for her clients, Melissa assists them in developing a healthy relationship with their money which, in turn, allows them to flourish or thrive in any financial environment.
Born and raised in the Chicagoland area, Melissa received her bachelor’s degree in communications studies from Christopher Newport University and later attended St. Xavier University graduating magna cum laude with a Master of Business Administration in financial planning. In 2006, she began her career at a large proprietary mutual fund broker-dealer that focused on a holistic approach to financial planning, as well as investments. In 2012, she decided that she wanted to provide her clients with more than what her previous company had to offer, so she made the transition to the independent financial planning world.
Today, Melissa is an Associate Partner and maintains a variety of responsibilities ranging from assessing portfolios, managing client’s needs and helping them make beneficial financial decisions. She interacts with clients on multiple levels, but regardless of whether it’s face-to-face, over the phone or email, everyone becomes an integral part of the HCM family. With an MBA with a focus in financial planning and a number of registrations including Series 6, 7, 24, 63, 65, in addition to, Life/Health/Disability Insurance licenses, Melissa is truly a lifelong learner and advocate in educating those she works with.
Melissa is a proud wife and mom to 3 active daughters. If you’re unable to find her in the office, she is likely cheering on a sporting event, coaching from the sidelines or volunteering at school. Melissa is also a girl scout leader for the Greater Northwest Indiana/Chicagoland Area and in her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, traveling and sweating at a CrossFit gym. Melissa and her family often donate their time to the organization, Feed My Starving Children along with donating to the local food pantry.
