Celebrating 30 Years

Dear Clients and Friends,

As we step into 2025, I am thrilled to celebrate our 30th anniversary in the financial planning and investment business. When I started in 1995 at the age of 23, I never envisioned a 30-year career. Back then, I was worried about making it to next month, juggling both my own financial needs, as well as my clients.

During my initial interview into financial services, I was given a test to see if I “could make it in the industry.” I failed. In true form, I disagreed with the results and was persuasive enough to be hired. Years later I learned the test measured “sales potential,” but not the ability to advise, mentor and coach.  Advise, mentor and coach are what we do.

Growing up as the youngest of ten children in a small community, I learned the importance of reputation, integrity, and trust. Everyone knew each other, so there was no escaping the impact of one's actions, or the actions of one’s siblings. Being a son of an estate planning lawyer, banker and farm owner, gave me early and unique insight into becoming a financial planner and the impact it has on people’s lives. This upbringing shaped my approach to business — my first business plan contained a “Life’s Purpose.”   My purpose was the first thing that popped into my head, frankly at 23 years old it seemed a bit silly. It was – “To have a positive impact on the lives of people I meet.”

Over the years our firm has grown, not through advertising, but through the heartfelt recommendations of satisfied clients. They’ve trusted our knowledge and wisdom to guide the ones they love.  We remain a boutique practice by choice, offering personalized advice to a limited number of client households. It allows us to view our clients as members of our family. As a result, we become personally invested in their personal and financial well-being.

We have also been fortunate to serve multiple generations of the same families. Some of those family’s legal needs were served by my father and grandfather and their banking needs were served by other relatives including my Great Grandfather. Continuing this tradition of integrity and trust is how I honor our shared legacy.

While I question the sanity of my early clients who hired the 23-year-old me, I cherish those relationships, as well as those of everyone who joined along the way. I have been blessed that I have always found reputable partners with the expertise needed, at the exact moment I needed them.  None more so than Melissa.  She partnered with me in 2017. We have shared values and respect each other’s contrasting opinions and experiences. We have been able to leverage each other’s strengths in so many meaningful ways to deliver results for our clients.

Getting back to my failed test.  I think it was accurate, but no test could measure my ability to have a positive impact on the lives of the people I meet.  Having thrived for 30 years in this industry, I believe our clients have given us a resounding vote of confidence that we have never “sold them” a product, and that we have helped them make decisions about how to best achieve their goals.

As we look ahead to the next 30 years, the future of Herr Capital Management is bright. We are committed to staying at the forefront of financial planning and investment strategies, continually adapting to the evolving financial landscape. Retirement is not in my plans for at least another 15-20 years, and I am excited to continue this journey with you. With your continued support, we are confident Herr Capital Management will thrive, helping you and your family achieve financial success for generations to come.

I hope your interactions with Herr Capital Management have positively impacted your life and the lives of your family.  I am profoundly grateful for the positive impact you have made on my life.

With Gratitude,
